Rose Quartz

Rose Quartz Crystal Gemstones

Let’s talk one of my fave stones; Rose Quartz! As the stone of my March 2022 collection, and several past and definitely future collections, I figured it’s be nice to give some attention to this lovely dreamy stone.

So where does Rose Quartz come from? And what is its cultural significance? Like most Quartz, Rose Quartz is a type of silica-based mineral, but gets its unique color from the presence of Titanium during forming. It is found naturally occurring in multiple parts of the world, including, but not limited to; Brazil, Sweden, Namibia, Iraq, and some parts of the U.S.

Culturally, Rose Quartz has an expansive history dating back as far as 7000 BC in Ancient Mesopotamia, where it was frequently carved into beads for jewelry and decoration by the Assyrian peoples. Ancient Roman, Egyptian, and Greek cultures also adored this stone, and (along with multiple other kinds of Quartz) often wore them as talismans. Romans specifically, sometimes used it as a seal to signify ownership.

Metaphysically, Rose Quartz (as with any natural stone or mineral) has a number of meanings depending on the culture using them. In ancient Egypt, it was thought to prevent aging to whomever wore it. Native American tribes, such as the Cherokee believed it to be a “love stone” and was said to balance the emotions of the wearer. In both Roman and Greek mythos, Rose Quartz was associated with their gods of love (Cupid and Eros, respectively), and it was said that they gave humanity the gift of love through the stone. Another legend attributes the pink hue of the stone to the Goddess Aphrodite, whom gave the stone its color when drops of her blood fell on a Quartz stone.

In modern metaphysical circles, a combination of these cultural meanings and more is usually attributed to Rose Quartz. It is currently thought to heal heartbreak, attract love, promote self-love, promote self-confidence, promote compassion, and even release stress.
