The Hydrangea Collection

hydrangea flower jewelry collection design board

What can be said about Hydrangeas? They’re amazingly beautiful flowers, and one of my absolute favorites not just to grow in my garden, but also to represent in jewelry.

For the month of April, I’ve chosen to revisit my favorite flower to make in silver but this time instead of representing the purple variety with Amethysts, I’ve decided to represent the luxurious and dreamy blue varieties with Blue Topaz gemstones.

Hydrangeas have been thought to originate in Japan, where they commonly adorn lavish colorful gardens. In Japan, the Hydrangea is often associated with heartfelt emotion, gratitude, understanding, and apology. This is due to a legend in which the Emperor gave them to the family of a girl whose affection he’d neglected in favor of business to show just how much he really cared for her.

In Victorian England, the Hydrangea took on a more distasteful symbolism due to its proud, showy nature. Victorians attributed the meanings of frigidity, rigidness, and vanity with these stunning blooms, though in my opinion I think they mean anything but!

The name for Hydrangea comes from the Greek word Hydros, meaning water, due to their need for extensive watering. Hydrangeas are also often given as a gift on one’s fourth anniversary to symbolize heartfelt and blooming emotion.

Whatever meaning you feel vibes with these intensely beautiful flowers, one thing is for sure. Their timeless and luxurious nature is a vastly treasured one the world around, and I can’t wait to show you what comes of this collection.

They Hydrangea Collection will become available on 4/30 at 5pm PST!
