Cherry Blossoms and Spring Breezes
It may not come as any surprise that when one thinks of springtime, Cherry Blossom petals drifting by in the breeze is likely one of the many visuals that my pass your mind. This springtime flower is a sight to behold on the waterfront of the Willamette river in Portland In April, and has a vary fond place in my heart. Not only is it a favorite springtime flower of mine, but under those trees on the Portland Waterfront is where my husband and I had our first kiss. And so I’ve chosen it to be March’s feature collection flower!
Cherry Blossoms first came to the United states from Japan in 1912, when the Japanese government gave them as a gift to the US and they were planted on the Northern Bank of the Potomac river by First Lady Helen Terron Taft and the wife of the Japanese ambassador; Viscountess Chinda. Ever since, the Japanese Cherry Blossom has been a favorite in US gardens and multiple major cities across the US, including Portland, Oregon.
The Cherry Blossom, or Sakura as it is known in Japanese, is a stunning spring flowering tree with centuries of deep rooted symbolism. In fact they are so beloved that each year in Japan, a thousand year old festival called Hanami is held to celebrate the blooming Cherry Blossom trees. During Hanami, people gather all around popular gardens and parks to enjoy the falling soft pink petals and stunning views and partake in delicious foods, singing, and drinking.
Cherry Blossoms carry a beautiful symbolism with them as well, and represent spring, renewal, and the fleeting nature of life due to their short two-week blooming period. The flower teaches us how beautiful the most temporary things in life can be, and to cherish the fleeting moments with our loved ones.
The beauty and symbolism of this flower is one of the many reasons I’ve chosen it to be the flower for my March 2022 collection. I have paired it lovingly with Rose quartz gemstones, which represents unconditional love, self love, and joy. This collection will be handcrafted in sterling silver and made available on Thursday March 31st at 5pm PST. I’m so excited to share this collection with you, and I hope that you will enjoy it as much as I do.
